Our services

Desert Doula Birth & Postpartum Services offers experienced doulas certified by DONA (Doulas of North America). All of our doulas are passionate about women and birth; some are also nurses, massage therapists, childbirth educators, and lactation educators, and mothers.  We believe that to be a doula is to work harmoniously with a woman and her family as they welcome a new life into their own. We actively support every family’s birth experience by providing education, empowerment, and support.  We honor the individuality of each woman’s birth wishes and embrace her during her unique journey into motherhood.

We are proud to offer the following Birth Doula Services:

bulletAn initial consultation and prenatal interview.
bulletGuidance in preparing your birth plan.
bulletAvailability to answer questions about your pregnancy, the upcoming birth, breastfeeding, or other concerns.
bulletAssistance in outlining options for labor and delivery.
bullet24/7 support and availability (all doulas carry pagers/cell phones).
bulletEarly labor support at home or at your final birth location.
bulletAttendance and support at the birth (home, birth center, hospital) and immediate postpartum care.
bulletAssistance with the initiation of breastfeeding.
bulletA follow-up postpartum visit within 2 weeks after your baby's birth to process your birth experience, provide newborn/new mom information and support, a postnatal resource folder, and a personally written story of your baby's birth.

*The option for birth doula services as listed above are as follows:

Assigned Doulas

Our unique rotating assigned doula service means that you will be matched with one of our doulas who is next in rotation prior to your due date.  She will meet with you personally for a single prenatal consultation.  At this extended meeting, she will gather information about your wishes for labor and childbirth and help you develop your birth plan.  She will also help empower you by providing you with concise information and tools for helping you and/your partner to prepare for the physical and emotional aspects of childbirth.

After your initial prenatal meeting, the same on-call doula will keep periodic contact with you by phone and/or email, to help support you through the remainder of your pregnancy and help answer any questions or concerns you may have as your due-date approaches.  Once in labor, you will contact this same doula directly, and she will meet you at your home or your birth place, and remain with you for the remainder of your labor, birth and immediate postpartum period.

Following delivery, your doula will meet with you within 2 weeks of your baby’s birth to conduct a postnatal visit.  During this meeting, she will help you to process your birth experience, assist with newborn and new-mom concerns and provide you with a personally written birth record to document your labor and your baby’s birth.

Fee: $385 - payment options available

Privately Hired Doulas

A privately-hired doula is one that is personally chosen by the expectant family.  After reviewing the list of available doulas who are accepting private-hire clients, you may contact Desert Doula’s Central Coordinator; who can give you the contact info of the doula(s) you are most interested in speaking with or meeting.  The doula you ultimately choose to privately-hire, will meet with you personally for an initial prenatal consultation.  During this meeting, she will gather information about your wishes for labor and childbirth and help you develop your birth plan.  She will also help empower you by providing you with concise information and tools for helping you to prepare for the physical and emotional aspects of childbirth.  There will also be opportunity for subsequent in-person visits if desired.  Most private hire doulas offer two or more prenatal visits.

After your initial prenatal meeting, your doula will keep periodic contact with you by phone and/or email, to help support you through the remainder of your pregnancy and help answer any questions or concerns you may have as your due-date approaches.  Once in labor, you will contact your doula directly, and she will meet you at your home or your birth place, and remain with you for the remainder of your labor, birth and immediate postpartum period.

Following delivery, your doula will meet with you within 2 weeks of your baby’s birth to conduct a postnatal visit.  During this meeting, she will help you to process your birth experience, assist with newborn and new-mom concerns, and provide you with a personally written birth record to document your labor and your baby’s birth.
